Rosie in Portugal, Part III
Portugal Part III takes us to the wine region of all wine regions, the Duoro Valley. The oldest demarcated wine region in the world, the Duoro Valley spans across both Spain and Portugal, and provides incredible landscapes, gastronomic restaurants, beautiful stays, and of course, amazing wine.
Where did you stay?
One of my favourite architects & industrial designers is Frenchman, Pierre Yovanovitch. Through my research, I had seen that he had renovated a 19th-century bed & breakfast, and also had designed a brand new functioning vineyard at a place called Quinta Da Corte. This beautiful 8-bedroom hotel sits high up in the wine region of Quinta, and overlooks an amazing landscape that has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site (so you can imagine the views).
What activities were on your must-do list?
A free wine & port tasting on-site is a must. The region is known for its port (only being just over one hour from Porto) and it was one of the best tastings I have ever done. Set in the most amazing new building, the modern design of the restored cellars is breathtaking. Another must is a boat trip on the Duoro River. We did a private boat tour on Anima Durius and spent a few hours on the river drinking wine and listening to the history of the Duoro Valley.
